2007-2008 Pre-Season Chat
Head Coach Brian Hills

Thursday November 29th  7:30 - 9:00 PM

Hello Coach Hills,

It is hard to believe that 20 years has come and gone.  Reflecting back...it has been a privilege to wrestle for the Raiders and learn from a legendary coach.

Best wishes for another successful season!

Chris "Fudd" Fedorczyk

Thanks Fudd! You were on my 1st team. My personal 1st NW Region Champ! Thanks for keeping a close eye on us. Your family in general has been a big part of the RHS program over the years.

What's it like to have Casey & Mike as your assistants? How's Mike doing with the Jr. High?

It's a true pleasure to have my kids involved in the program. I hope they are learning all the responsibilities associated with coaching. They appear to be learning well. Casey is a true technician and adds his superior desire to excel. Michael has shown good motivational and organizational skills. But the best thing is nobody knows my thoughts and mindset better than them. They know when to slow me down or turn me off. The thing is I can rely on them as well as all staff members.

What will the lineup look like the first part of the season?

The first month of the season we are concentrating on getting healthy. As you may know we suffered some tough injuries prior to our season beginning. Sam Fuchs may be back before the end of the year. ACL surgery after summer wrestling. Mike DiGregorio broke his leg during football season and Ryan Dawes injured his ankle during football season. Our goal is to get these guys healthy soon BUT we are happy with the squad we will start the season with. This is a good team under the radar.

103-Adam Matthews (9) or Rodney Harnett (10)
112-Mason Beckman (9)
119-Eddie Nottingham (9)
125-Cody Kelly (11)
130-Corey Brown (12)
135-Tony D'Urso (11)
140-Luke Taylor (10)
145-Kaine Kulka (11)
152-Brandon Maun (12)
160-Greg Baptiste (10) or Jeremy Fowler (10)
171-Ryan Dawes (12)
189-Mike Miller (12)
215-Will Ringer (11)
285-Cory Shields (12)

How does the freshman class look this year?
Will any of them break into a starting role?

We have another good freshman group. Adam Matthews 103 lbs. and Mason Beckman 112 lbs. can cause some noise during the tournament trail and will be relied upon to score big points. Eddie Nottingham will start at 119 lbs. and Tyler Rhoades is close at 171 lbs. Robbie MCollum and Derrick Lengacher are inexperienced but gaining rapidly. They will be very competitive in JV matches.

What do the local teams look like this year? Which ones will be the most competitive for us?

The local teams are all very solid this year. We have a very competitive league and southern District 10 usually dominates at the D-10 tournament. Greenville has been improving immensely over the past few years and have been stating this is the year to beat us. CP under protege Kevin Drew has improved also. Mercer and Grove City are always competitive. Hickory has a very good team this season and could cause some noise.

Is this year's squad the youngest Reynolds has ever had? How many seniors will be starting?

I don't believe this is the youngest or the oldest team. We seem to be having a good blend of youth and veterans each year. We will start 4 to 5 seniors this season to go along with approximately 3 freshman.

What teams will be at the Ultimate Duals?

Greenville, Line Mountain, Northern Lehigh, Redbank Valley, Reynolds and Brookville.

Where does the King of the Mountain Tournament rank with the other tournaments we go to?

The King of the Mountain Tournament has developed into one of the best Pennsylvania tournaments you can find. The talent level there has definitely gained momentum this year. The only non Pa school is Masillon Perry, OH who we also see at the Ironman Tournament. Norm Palovscik, the tournament director has really grown the tournament. There are over 36 schools involved and ranks similar to Manheim which is pound for pound very good with only 14 teams.

Will the Raiders be in the hunt for the D10 championship?

Yes!

I hear that there are several injuries from the football season... any of them long term?

As stated previously we are without Mike DiGregorio who broke his leg and Ryan Dawes with an ankle injury. We hope to have them both at full strength at the end of December. We may not be at full strength for the December tournaments as we do not want to risk further injuries.

Rumor has it that the "Silver Fox" came out of retirement this past summer and played some pretty good softball. Where did the nickname come from coach?

Alright now! That may have something to do with the hair at age 50! Had alot of fun this past season playing on a very competitive team as a role player. Glad I could contribute when called upon. It's great playing with family and a group of guys which have a similar desire as we do in our wrestling room. WIN!

To my knowledge (what little of it I have) Burrell, Shadyside, and Westmont - Hilltop will all be trying to take something from RHS.  How do we match up with them?

The teams you mention are very good and we haven't really analyzed lineups yet.  We did wrestle with Burrell at the Ft LeBouef scrimmage and they looked very good. I think as the season goes on and we get healthy along with getting down in weight our team can be very competitive and make another run at a TEAM title.

How does your staff look with the loss of J.T.?  With Coach Taylor moving up, who has Jr, High duties?

Coach T was a huge loss. He remains on staff as a volunteer and is our eyes and ears in SCHOOL. Congrats to Big T also on the newest addition to his growing family. Casey has taken on his role with great vigor as he knows he cannot condition our kids any less. The bucket has been in use. Michael along with Joel Davis are coaching our Junior High team which has twenty one 7th and 8th graders.

Congratulations on another great season last year.  Can your team be top 10 at the Ironman this year?  Do you see any of the Raiders being high seeds in the tournament?

Top 10 at the Ironman probably gets you a National ranking. With the injuries and youthfulness of our team a top 20 finish may be realistic this year. Cody Kelly is our only returning place winner as he finished 6th last year. Placing at Ironman, let alone being seeded at Ironman, is a tribute. We go here to see what really top notch national ranked wrestling is all about. Our kids will mature just being in the same venue as some of the competitors at this tournament.

Have you named team captains this year?

Yes. Corey Brown is our team captain and Mike Miller and Ryan Dawes are co-captains.

I see your daughter, Courtney, has been named captain of the cheerleading squad. As a good father, I would hope you are planning to win another state championship for her senior year, right?

Ah yes. Our homecoming queen! Our expectation levels are the same this year as they have been. If it means winning for her so be it!  I would like to say how very proud I am of Courtney and that she could be the best athlete in our family. By the way she gets her good looks from her mother!

How is Sam Fuchs doing?

Appears to be ahead of schedule. He has been working out since day 1-drilling etc. nothing live but looks like he could go now. We want to be cautious with him as he still has another year in front of him. We want him to be healed totally. At his rate he may be wrestling in January.

In your wildest dreams, did you ever think you would reach 300 wins?

Maybe. Was not and is not a major goal of mine. Just comes with the time spent with so many great individuals. I have been blessed with so many hard working kids and coaches that have helped along the way. Cannot begin to name them all. All the parents that come and go have also been very instrumental in the success of the program.

Brian - how's it working out with Casey as your top assistant coach? Does he work the kids as hard as John did?

Great! John set the example and raised the bar. I think you could ask the kids if Casey is working them hard as well as motivating them in his own way. Casey always like to do things better.

Who do you think is the team to beat in Dist. 10 and then in the state?

Good Luck to you and the Raiders

Harborcreek, Greenville, Hickory, Fort Lebouef are always in the hunt and I'm sure there will be some surprises in District 10. Burrell, Shadyside Academy and Derry out of the WPIAL. Brandywine Hts., Bermudian Springs and Westmont Hilltop appear strong statewide.

Coach Hills, Do you know who the Raiders will be wrestling at Brookville this year?

We wrestle all the teams that participate at the duals. Greenville, Brookville, Line Mountain, Northern Lehigh and Redbank Valley. All on the same day I might add!

hello, i think you guys rock, you earn what you get, all the best    ron from slippery rock.

Thanks Ron!  Best of Luck.

I wish you the best of luck this season.  See you in the gym!

"Coach" Lineman

Thanks Coach! You are and always will be the MAN!

Thanks to all of you who are interested in our program and support us throughout the year. Our kids and staff believe it is our duty to put a good product on the mat that makes our community proud!
